This is a huge help. I'll keep writing the stories I love, but I'll take your advice and not write in only one category. Those two characters work really really well as read-a-louds. I used them at my new library and I swear they was a stampede to the shelves. Oh and Cat the Cat. So well done. Not in my writing wheel house but sure darn fun to share! What I like about your posts, this one and the one from May 17 for example, is the depth of information, analysis and conclusions not found in other literary agents' blogs. Not my genre, but I know that your Webinar this week will be very informative and useful for Middle Grade authors and maybe you will consider lecturing at a publishing/writing program in a University of College near you. Have a great July 11. Chantilla.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11089716.post-75001616058168026032013-07-08T12:38:59.450-07:002013-07-08T12:38:59.450-07:00Very interesting post! It's like if Bink and Gollie were a graphic novel/comic book. Which I now know sort of places it in that Transitional Reader or TOON books area. My kids seem to click with the more recent titles (BINK & GOLLIE, TALES FOR PICKY EATERS, THE MEANEST BIRTHDAY GIRL, WEDGIMAN, RABBIT & ROBOT) over the classics (FROG AND TOAD, LITTLE BEAR, etc.). Was wishing there were more original readers with a modern feel. Thanks for explaining the categories and the uphill battle toward publication. I'll give this challenge some more thought!
